About US

From Village to Worlwide

I am H.M. Wasantha Ranjith Kumara, the proprietor of Thasara Art & Craft, located in Bihalpola,Nakkawaththa, Kuliyapitiya.Sri Lanka.. For over twenty-five years, I have been operating this business alongside my team of skilled wood carvers. Throughout this time, we have achieved significant success, providing wood carvings, furniture, and home decoration tools and designs to numerous hotels, guesthouses, and restaurants.

My journey began after completing my schooling. Despite having no prior experience in wood carving, I developed a profound interest in the craft. I joined a wood carving shop and learned the art under the guidance and supervision of master craftsmen, working diligently as an apprentice. Through persistent effort and a passion for the craft, I gradually honed my skills, blending my natural talent with the techniques I acquired.

Today, I work with several traditional artisans who share my passion for wood carving. Our collaborative efforts extend to all those in our community who are passionate about the arts. Our artisans are adept at creating traditional masks, wall wood decorations, paintings, and a variety of hotel items, including a diverse range of furniture. One of our specialties is “Ruk Art” or Free Wood Art, where we have the unique ability to transform any shapeless piece of wood into a work of art.
